Earlshall takes its name from the hunting lodge of ‘The Erlishall’ (sic) owned by the Earls of Fife, relatives of King Robert de Bruce. Sir William Bruce began building the castle in 1546. The castle was built with large windows rather than narrow slit windows used for defence. Musket loops and smaller windows were provided in strategic places as an insurance against armed incursion.

Whoever owns this castle has a definite style about them.
This car should be at the castle and the castle should have this car in it’s grounds.

Earlshall Castle
The Price?
Here at Unique Property Bulletin, our pet hate is when a seller and/or estate agent fail to disclose their guide price. There are of course legitimate reasons for doing this, but the subscribers to this website know of buyers ranging from a small flat in Anytown to a large £10,000,000 house in Kensington London who have simply “scrolled by” properties such as Earlshall Castle.
To the owner, this must be a very difficult thing to part with such a magnificent home. But your eventual sale price will suffer if you do not disclose the guide price that you seek. Why? Simple economics. The fewer expressions of interest, the fewer buyers. That means less competition.
We wager your price is handsome and therefore your pool of buyers is already rarefied. If you check the Financial Times most reliable investigative reporters, the world is headed towards the worst economic crisis in 300 years.
With the greatest respect, it appears your agents have been trying to sell Earlshall Castle since, and we quote…

We have no skin in the game; we are not estate agents. Though our subscribers can and do buy places like yours. So the bona fides behind this advice come from the heart and head. Please consider publicly disclosing your price?
The readers of our websites can exceed 180,000 (credentials: here). Our Unique Property Club members number 383 so this would be of interest. Actually that s the wrong verb. We might have been interested had there been a price disclosed.
Now we may never know.
At the level you are selling, there may be a 20% to 35% drop in what you expected. That is fact. Based on the last estate we bought. This advice is intended to be constructive. we wish you well in your outcome.
Sincerely,
The Unique Property Bulletin Team.

It i evident from the paragraph in the segment above that we get irritated when seller’s decline to give an open guide price.
We recommend our readers apply some detective work as a useful and often enjoyable way to locate more information that may help gauge the price guide.

1000 Days!
It is a remarkable fact that the previous owner to the current proprietor of Earlshall Castle owned the buildings and the 53 acre estate for precisely 1000 days…
Source: Here
Using this as a very blunt measurement in order to find an exceedingly broad ballpark estimate of price we can look at extrapolating 1000 days of ownership and a price increase of £112,000 (£675,000 – £563,000).
That equates to an increase in price of £112 each and every day in the late 1990s.
This is incredibly inaccurate as to what the current owner may want as an almost overwhelming set of external events inform the actual price that is in the current owner’s head.
What we do know is that the current owner has possessed Earlshall Castle from 1st July 1999 to…
St Andrews Day 2020.
That equates to…
So 7,823 days multiplied by £112 increase in value each day gives is a very rough current estimate of…
Guide Price As At 30 November 2020
£876,176.
What do you reckon? Anywhere near the hidden asking price?
However, property being an asset that inexorably increases and folk seeking to maximise their return on something they paid £675,000 almost a quarter of a century ago and we suspect the asking price will be…
£1,000,000?
Do you think this is closer to what the owner seeks?
If the owners are being, well let us say “ambitious”, then when Earlshall castle was placed for sale, they may have gone for three times what they paid for it…
£1,995,000
Nope, not even close.

At this point, if you are an active buyer considering lifting the telephone to negotiate an offer, you may care to reflect we are approaching the worst recession for 300 years and the fact Earlshall Castle has been for sale since…
Source: Here
It is a fact that Earlshall Castle has been for sale for longer than the last owner possessed it!
We would respectfully recommend that with the property crash fast approaching and banks running out of money due to CBills compromising their capital adequacy reserves and stress test endurance, an offer at FOUR times what the current owners paid for this castle is about right. Otherwise they will be waiting at least another 8 years to sell. Probably longer.
Covid19 will cause the worst recession for 300 years.
Shipping magnate or not, the price of this castle was vastly overvalued when it was place on the sale listing four years ago. Sorry guys: yes Earlshall Castle is magnificent and has been kept in very good condition, but the upkeep costs are horrendous. We know, we have owned several Grade A listed buildings.
You really do need to be far more realistic IF you are serious about selling.
If not, then maybe take the place off the market and give yourself a rest. Enjoy the place for a few more years.
