We have long advocated the most effective way to preserve national heritage such as this castle and save these iconic structures from becoming magnificent romantic ruins, is to split the HM Land Registry title into more manageable (smaller) slices… there are, after all, 25 acres of beautiful Cumbrian park land included. The headline price is eye watering, so put your hot coffee mug down before clicking any links. If nothing else, this castle price is an object-lesson in why we advocate title-splitting into more digestible parcels, for example a detached lodge and an acre of land at £350,000, rather the six million quid. Lets face it, most of us are mere mortals and finding even a million pounds down the back of the sofa is quite a big ask!

We surrendered the lease in the 1990s when the old fella went down to work in London. But you can still rent this building from Mr and Mrs Turner, owners of Davaar Island.

As for finding a place to live at £5 a year (plus a few grand in renovation and a lot of favours owed to friends who helped renovate the place? We still come across the occasional place like this and at an very affordable budget.
