Here is a fairly accurate red-line boundary illustration of what is being sold for a guide of £19,000. It includes a ruinous building. This is for sale now as at July/August 2025. Though it is similar to the ruin and land where this publication was started at the other side of the country 40 years ago in 1985!

We would suggest those of our readers who have some curiosity in the this old, ruinous building and the dramatic piece of land upon which it is build, please have a read of this complete page. It may well help your due diligence. Part of which we would hope can be enhanced by our own experience at the Old Coastguard Lookout we renovated in 1985.
As for this Tod Head Lighthouse “Building A” and also the Sea Cathedral? Herewith, we are delighted to present you with some details, alongside possible future uses (subject to planning permission).
There is a large area of coastal land included. “Building A” is a ruin. For now, it can be identified as the structure outlined by the gold coloured circle.
We just realised, for perspective, Russ is actually sitting at the front door along with wee Ella the wonderful wee Patterdale four-legged friend…

Our own thoughts, based on a lot of planning permissions + building warrants (permitted/granted) and matters that may arise at this site, we were tending towards something for leisure that residential…

From 40 Years Living At Lighthouses
The old building really needs making safe. We have seen similar neatly arranged piles of bricks secure residential planning permission hundreds of miles away…

But obtaining planning permission (the full process) can take a fairly significant amount of time.
Though for this current sale at Tod Head Lighthouse Station guided at £19,000 we really have been hit with a wonderful Eureka moment as the architectural + vernacular + weather robustness principles do look like working. More in a few minutes.
Returning to our first thought for this unusual site…
That was to reinstate this coastal structure as some form of nature photographer’s “hide” where you can have a bit of warmth and a cup of tea whilst in your own sanctuary. Whilst just contemplating the perfect photo you might just capture (though some structures are open to the elements and very draughty up the old kilt)…

Then, whilst writing these words, a eureka moment. The lateral-thought process kicked in.
We were thinking about the most suitable style of minimalist “observation hide” as we have seen folk freeze themselves to near-hypothermia trying to capture the perfect whale-watching photo.

It has been a very strange time, even by the standards our crew have witnessed…. since we vowed to help our readers find their dream home. Good turned to bad and then bad turned to good!
The inheritance accepted by Russ McLean of a terrible website called “Calum’s List” has knocked all the volunteers’ here.
The fact it was a good friend Michael Moore who died and it was Mike who registered both websites (totally different purposes) added to the distress.
After site registration, it was Mike who taught Russ how to build and operate THIS Unique Property Bulletin website.
That makes the loss of a good friend all the more poignant. The worst of all is what that horrendous “Calum’s List.”
The most bizarre event is the realisation that Unique Property Bulletin will, via a third charity born of these pages, make it possible to help Russ keep his promise to Mike.

Okay, we need some help here. One of the less well known things is that several of you have helped us register and establish a couple of charities over the decades. The first was Creditcare Debt Advice Charity after we lost one of our friends to suicide.
The second charity was where we accidentally bought a big ship (it was going to be a house-boat until we got the charity sorted out). But we actually had quite a bit of luck with that…

Our chief word-mangler, (editor) Russ McLean has two more charities on the launch pad: The Lighthouse Preservation Trust and a very much needed: Community Power Generation Trust. This last charity aims to reduce energy bills by 50%. It was triggered when Rus ingerited the terrible “Calum’s List” website during 2024/2025.
Although the wretched SSE plc electricity company (as disliked by 93% of 44000 Trustpilot reviewers (here) got the blood pressure a mile high.
after this publication got ripped off by SSE plc when SSE direct debited £19,428 instead of £198…
SSE plc electricity eejits robbed us a second £19,428.46 (here) nd that will likely result in one of these power stations getting built as part of our Community Power Generation charity…
