Included in this two-way-street of helping each other, we have been asked, several times by our readers about castles for sale. Here is one that has been “sold”, then “for sale” and repeat the cycle since 2016 and it is now June 2022 is “for sale” again…

First and foremost, please do NOT be deterred of you spot a “sold” sign on any particulars.

=> If you really fancy this magnificent building, then please be firm and persistent.

Either YOU will buy this castle or you won’t.

We don’t normally recommend the next piece of advice as the conveyancing system in Scotland is “supposed” to insulate against multiple buyers gazumping each other. But this building is deteriorating. Just study the renovation costs detailed below.

It is in the interests of the building (and frankly the sellers) to have a BUYER that will COMPLETE. For the past SIX years all buyers have failed!

So our recommendation is that you keep on persisting in your efforts until YOU can see that HM Land Registry actually places a note on the public domain title that a NEW REGISTRATION of owner is in place.

=> When Carbisdale Castle is REALLY SOLD, the Land Registry page will contain words such as “title transfer in process”

=> As at 4th June 2022, there is NO transfer in process.

So carry on buying!

Planning Permissions

There is a fascinating set of files and drawings for you to undertake some due diligence. You will need to type in “Carbisdale Castle” as the local authority don’t have a direct link system. But once you get to the Carbisdale Castle index pages for various planning permissions, several have DETAILED PLAN DRAWINGS for you to study.

= We also recommend engaging the same architect providing there is no conflict of interest.

That will save you a lot of time and expense as the current architect will have an encyclopaedic knowledge of the castle.
