Mona Inn – Stables & Courtyard

This is an interesting old coaching inn and stable blocks, courtyard and orchard, ideal as a renovation project. The property has a set of permissions already in place. There is a whole host of original features and grand scale, this property would make a truly impressive country residence in rural yet convenient location, with Bangor being some 15 minutes away. The main inn is arranged over two principal floors…

The main inn also has a number of cellar rooms below…

Mona Inn – Cellar Rooms

Situated on the Island of Anglesey, adjacent to the A5 and just a short drive from the A55 Expressway Llangefni exit, this property is in a convenient yet rural location with views over open countryside from all aspects. The property has been partly renovated in recent years.

Mona Inn – Some Rooms Renovated

Mona Inn – Some Rooms Still Need Work

Mona Inn – Some Rooms Are Getting There

However, there is a considerable amount of work to bring up to modern living standards and complete the already approved renovation works. The property is 2* listed and therefore eligible to apply for grant funding towards the renovation work.

Mona Inn – Stables & Courtyard

There are several static caravans already set up on site with adjoining structure, which could accommodate up to 8 people in relative comfort whilst work is completed on the main house.

Extensive Range of Stable & Coach House Buildings

This property is of significant historic importance which has resulted in the property being listed as 2* by CADW in 1998; being commissioned by Sir Thomas Telford as part of the Post Road (A5) from London to Ireland in the early 1800’s with Mona Inn opening to the traveller in 1821.

Mona Inn – Temporary Onsite Accommodation

The property has a large and fully enclosed courtyard to the rear, which is cobbled around all four sides and has original hard standing in the centre (although this has become covered in a layer of grass in the past few years). The courtyard is surrounded by extensive two-storey outbuildings including coaching arches. There is a large area of lawn to the front of the property with large double gates to the side of the property through which the courtyard is accessed. To the rear of one wing of the outbuildings is an enclosed walled orchard, complete with apple trees of the period. The property, which was last partially inhabited in the 1980’s, is watertight, secure and fully alarmed, as is the courtyard. The dwelling adjoining the right-hand side of the property was formerly the Inn Keepers private residence and is available by separate negotiation from separate vendors.

Mona Inn – Temporary Onsite Accommodation

1998 Mona Inn was recognised as being of historic interest and listed 11* by CADW. On 5th December 2005 CADW gave listed building approval to commence the restoration work. This consent remains valid. Further detailed historic information is available. N.B. currently rated as band A for council tax – this would change once renovations are complete.
